Installation of your CAC Reader on Windows: Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Obtain a CAC Reader: This can be done at BuyCACReaders.com

Step 2: CAC Reader Driver:  Most of the time, the New hardware wizard will install the CAC reader automatically, and there is no need for you to install the driver manually. If you have issues with your driver, consult our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Step 3: Download ActivClient: ActivClient goes beyond advanced authentication and enables support for digital signature and encryption, protecting the organization’s data in transit and at rest. The software complies with major government and industry regulations. ActivClient has been deployed in over four million desktop installations and is interoperable with leading smart cards, smart USB keys, readers, operating systems, certificate authorities, network environments and enterprise applications. You can download ActivClient and learn more about the software from our partner at Tx Systems. ***NOTE: Chrome is not compatible with ActivClient. If you have issues on Chrome, switch to Edge or a different browser of your choice.
